1. Extension of examination times in the German-language Assessment Year
Students who are enrolled in the German-language Assessment Year but have a native language other than German are allowed an additional 15 minutes of time for each hour an examination is scheduled to last (not included are examinations for accountancy, math and languages).
2. Extension of the German-language Assessment Year
Students who are enrolled in the German-language Assessment Year but have a native language other than German are allowed to extend the Assessment Year from two to four semesters. Students who are granted such an extension are required to pursue their studies according to the study plan specified in the implementation provisions linked on this page under "Downloads". Provisional admission to the Bachelor’s level is possible after the second semester of the Assessment Year; however, it is to be pursued at your own risk and is limited to two semesters.
With this measure, students who are enrolled in the German-language Assessment Year but have a native language other than German are allowed the opportunity to design the Assessment Year according to their knowledge and progress in the study language. In this way, you can slow down the pace of the examinations and take more time to dive into better understanding the specialized knowledge involved.
These two offers can be opted for individually or in combination: Students who are enrolled in the German-language Assessment Year but have a native language other than German can apply for the extension of examination times with or without extending the entire Assessment Year. A student’s native language is considered the language of the majority of his or her schooling and is declared and verified in the course of registering for study at the HSG and decides whether the prerequisites are fulfilled.
For students with familial obligations or top-level athletes studying in the German- or English-language Assessment Year, the university offers another measure of additional support.
Extension of the Assessment Year to four semesters
Taking into consideration the additional obligations in these cases, the Assessment Year may be extended to up to four semesters. In this way, you can slow down the pace of the examinations and take more time to dive into better understanding the specialized knowledge involved while also balancing your other duties.
